Terms of Use

Using SameLight means you agree to what is written here.

Effective 2026-08-27

Who this agreement is with

SameLight is published by WANG WENJIE, an individual developer. This document is the agreement between you and the developer for your use of the app. Apple distributes the app and processes payments, and Apple’s own Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your licence to use it; where this document is silent, Apple’s standard terms fill the gap.

What this app is

SameLight is a photo-standardisation tool. It measures your capture conditions — how much light there is, what colour that light is, how far the camera is, how far your head is turned, and the camera settings it locked — so that two of your own photos can be placed side by side fairly. On photos that cleared its capture gate, it counts visible spots.

It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose anything, does not grade severity, does not recommend or evaluate any treatment, and does not score your face or your appearance. It is not a substitute for a professional opinion. If something about your skin concerns you, talk to a qualified clinician; do not use anything this app shows you to start, stop or change a treatment on your own.

Licence and acceptable use

You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use SameLight on devices you own or control, for your own use. Do not decompile, resell or redistribute the app.

SameLight is designed for photographing yourself. If you photograph anyone else with it, that is your responsibility: you need their consent, and you must not use the app’s output to make claims or decisions about another person’s health or appearance.

Subscription

SameLight Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly at $4.99 or yearly at $29.99. Prices are in US dollars; the price actually shown to you is the one Apple displays for your storefront and currency, and that is the price that governs.

  • Free trial. The yearly plan includes a 3-day free trial. The monthly plan does not. Trial eligibility is decided by Apple from your Apple Account history; if you have used a trial in this subscription group before, purchasing charges you immediately. If you buy a subscription while a trial is running, the unused part of the trial is forfeited.
  • Renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel at any time in your Apple Account settings; the app opens Apple’s own subscription screen for this. Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the current paid period running to its end.
  • Refunds. Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are requested from and decided by Apple, under Apple’s Media Services terms. The developer cannot issue a refund.

What stays free

Standardized capture and the capture gate, on-device analysis and spot counting, comparison with its comparability score, the full export of your original photos and capture parameters, and deleting your data are free of charge, permanently, and are not part of the subscription. Your first stability check is also free.

For the first 14 days after installation everything is unlocked, including the features that later require Pro. After that, Pro covers the timeline beyond the rolling 14-day window, the trend chart, and re-running the stability check. Nothing is deleted or withheld when the free window ends: your older photos remain on the device and remain in every export.

Your data is yours, and only yours

Your photos and their data stay on your device. The export gives you all of them in open formats — JPEG, CSV, PDF and plain text — with the scoring formula included so anyone can recompute the numbers.

The other side of that promise: we cannot recover anything for you. If you delete a photo, use Delete all data, delete the app, lose the device or restore a backup that predates your photos, they are gone. There is no copy on any server. Export regularly if the history matters to you.

What the numbers mean, and what they do not

The comparability score describes the consistency of your capture conditions between two photos — the camera and the room, not your skin. Below its threshold the app refuses to render a comparison rather than showing you one with a caveat.

The spot count is designed and tested for stability: the same face under small changes in brightness, white balance, rotation, framing and compression should give a consistent number, and the in-app stability check lets you measure that yourself. Its absolute accuracy against a human counting by hand is still being calibrated, and no agreement figure is claimed. Read the direction of a trend across many standardized photos; do not treat any single number as a finding.

Nothing SameLight shows you is a diagnosis, an assessment, or advice.

Availability and changes to the app

The app is provided as it is at the time you use it. Features may change, and an iOS update or a device change may alter what the camera can measure — on iPhones without a TrueDepth front camera, for instance, distance is estimated from face width and is labelled as estimated. The developer may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the app; if a paid feature is discontinued during a paid period, contact the developer, and refunds remain Apple’s to grant.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

SameLight is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. The developer does not warrant that measurements will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any decision you might base on them.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer’s total liability arising out of your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Your rights under local law

Nothing in this document removes or reduces the consumer rights you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live. Where those rights conflict with anything written here, those rights win. Statutory withdrawal and refund rights for digital purchases are exercised through Apple, as the seller of record.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, this page and the copy bundled inside the app are updated together and the effective date at the top moves. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.
